Points to Ponder

Point to Ponder
Why do most obituaries not list birthdates?

In many places, the age of the deceased is included in the obit. That is just not the habit of most mortuaries in the St. Louis area. Although the obit is up to the family, it is normal for the mortician to suggest a text for family approval, and in this area, they just do not include the age.

In Cincinnati, the obits do not include the birth date, either.

And while genealogy is my hobby, I still did not think to include that bit of information in my mother's obit.

I THINK IT IS BECAUSE A LOT OF THE OLDER PEOPLE WERE VERY VEIN I REMEMBER MY GRAND MOTHER DIDN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW HER AGE. MY AUNT TO THIS DAY IS THE SAME WAY. NOT TO MENTION IF YOU AREN'T USE TO SEEING IT IN THE OBITS YOU DON'T THINK OF IT LIKE BUFFY SAID. THANKS
